Brake pad replacement swaps worn pads for new ones and checks the discs, calipers and brake fluid at the same time. In JBR a straightforward pad change is done where the car is parked. Scored discs or seized calipers go to a partner workshop. Message on WhatsApp or call at any hour, 24/7.
What's included
- Front or rear pads replaced as an axle set, never one side only
- Disc thickness measured against the minimum figure marked on the disc
- Pad wear sensor replaced on cars fitted with one
- Caliper slide pins cleaned and greased, pistons pushed back and checked for leaks
- Electronic parking brake put into service mode with a scan tool for rear pads
- Brake fluid level and condition checked, then a pedal test before the car moves
Signs you need it
- A high-pitched squeal when you brake lightly
- Grinding or scraping, which means metal is touching the disc
- Brake pad warning light or a message on the dashboard
- The steering wheel or pedal shakes when braking from speed
- The car pulls to one side under braking
Brake pad replacement: How it works
From first message to driving away usually takes under an hour.
Wheels off, pads measured
The technician comes to your parking space, removes a wheel on each axle and measures pad and disc thickness. You see the numbers and photos before anything is replaced.
Fitted on the spot
If the discs are within limits, new pads go in there and then. The slide pins are cleaned and greased and the wear sensor is changed where one is fitted.
Workshop if needed
Deeply scored or thin discs, a seized caliper or a fluid leak are workshop jobs. The car is collected, repaired and returned to your building.
Good to know in JBR
Brakes in JBR live a short, hard life. The loop is stop and go, the basements are full of speed bumps and the ramps end in a barrier. Salt air from the beach also leaves a film of rust on the discs of a car that sits for a couple of weeks. That rust usually wipes off in the first few stops. Pitting that stays on the disc needs a proper look.

Car was dead on P2 after three weeks away. Sent the tower and bay number on WhatsApp and the technician was at the car in about 25 minutes. He tested it first and showed me the printout before changing anything.

The dealership quoted me three days. These guys fitted an AGM battery in my building's basement the same evening and registered it to the car. Start-stop works again.

Honest. I was sure I needed a new battery. He jump started it, checked the alternator and told me the battery still had life in it, just drive it more. Didn't try to sell me anything.

Friday night on The Walk so it took closer to 40 minutes than 30, but they called to say so. Battery is in the boot on mine and he knew exactly where to go. Paid with Tabby.

Clear about the options. Three brands that fit my car, what each one cost and how long the warranty was, all on WhatsApp before he set off. No surprises when he arrived.

Second time I've used them, different car. Same result: on time, clean job, terminals cleaned without me asking. I've saved the number.

Security at my cluster can be difficult with outside contractors. They told me exactly what to say to the gate and it went smoothly. Battery changed in twenty minutes.

Brake pad replacement: common questions
Can brake pads be changed in a tower basement?
Yes, in most cases. The job needs a level parking space, a jack, axle stands and hand tools, and no fluids are drained. If your building does not allow repairs in the parking, we move the car to a spot nearby or take it to the workshop.
Do the discs need changing every time the pads are changed?
No. Discs are measured each time. If they are above the minimum thickness and not scored, lipped or warped, new pads can bed in on them. Discs below the limit are replaced, because a thin disc runs hotter and can crack.
The brakes squeal after new pads were fitted. Is that normal?
A light squeal in the first few days can happen while the pads bed in against the disc. Brake gently for the first couple of hundred kilometres. If the noise continues or you hear grinding, send us a message and we will check them again.
Car not starting right now?
Message us the make, model and where it's parked. You'll have a price and an arrival time in a few minutes.
