Energizer is an American battery brand whose car batteries are built under licence by Clarios, the group that also makes Varta. A household name on a Clarios-built battery
Energizer is known first for the batteries in torches and remote controls. The name has been used since 1980, for cells that were sold before that under the Eveready label. Its car batteries are a licensed product: in Europe, the Middle East and Africa they are manufactured by Clarios, a very large maker of starter batteries. That puts recognised engineering under a label most people already know from the kitchen drawer.
The licensed range for hot markets is built with heavier grids and separators than a standard European battery, according to the regional distributor. In daily use, an Energizer Premium does what a good mid-tier battery should: start the car after a week in a basement and hold up to the AC running at every traffic light. It suits a Corolla, a Patrol, an Explorer or a Golf equally. Start-stop cars need the Premium AGM or Premium EFB, not the standard line.

Does Energizer make its own car batteries?
No. Energizer licenses its name for automotive batteries. In this region they are manufactured by Clarios, a large battery group that also supplies car makers. Licensing is common in the battery trade, and the country of manufacture is printed on the label for you to read.
Is an Energizer car battery the same as a Varta?
They come from the same manufacturing group, but they are separate ranges with their own specifications and sizes. Do not assume a given Energizer is identical to a given Varta. Compare the capacity, cold cranking current and technology on the two labels for your size.
How can I tell an Energizer on the shelf is fresh?
