Jeep does not make it obvious. The Grand Cherokee sold between 2011 and 2021 has its battery under the front passenger seat, with jump-start posts under the bonnet. The current Wrangler and Gladiator with stop-start carry two batteries under the bonnet: a main AGM unit and a small auxiliary one tucked beneath the fuse box. When the auxiliary fades, the stop-start warning comes on and, in time, the car can refuse to crank even with a healthy main battery.
Most modern Jeeps have an intelligent battery sensor clamped to the negative terminal. It rarely needs coding with a diagnostic tool, but it is fragile and has to go back exactly as it came off. Jeeps in Dubai also collect accessories: winches, light bars, fridges, compressors for airing up after the dunes. All of that comes out of the same battery, so we test with the accessories in mind and check the terminals for sand and corrosion.
