Mercedes handles a battery change differently from BMW. Most models do not need the new battery coded, but the car watches it through a sensor on the negative terminal, and a diagnostic tool is used to clear stored low-voltage faults afterwards. The message 'Auxiliary battery malfunction' points to a separate small battery or voltage converter, not the main one. Recent mild-hybrid models add a 48V battery as well, which this service does not replace.

How long does it take to change a Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV battery?

Will I lose my radio and seat settings?

What does 'Auxiliary battery malfunction' mean on my Mercedes?
It refers to a small second battery, or on some models a voltage converter, that supports the start-stop system and gear selector. It is not the main starting battery. The car normally still drives, but the part should be tested and replaced before it starts affecting other functions.
My Mercedes sat for a month while I travelled. Will a jump start be enough?
Often, yes, if the battery was healthy before. An AGM battery that has been left deeply flat for weeks may not hold charge again, though. The technician jump starts the car, lets it run, then tests the battery. You only replace it if the test says so.
